MIDWEST COUNSELING
Relationship-Based Healing Rooted in Clinical Sophistication
About the Practice
Serving Patients Since 2006
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist who has been practicing in different settings and different levels of care throughout the country since 2006. My career has led me from private practice in Michigan, to treating trauma and developing co-occurring treatment programs in Utah and North Carolina, back to Michigan to develop the state's first residential eating disorder program and now back to private practice. My diverse clinical experiences have allowed me the opportunity to work with some of the brightest providers in the country. The exposure to such diverse and skilled providers has shaped me into a clinician that is unique in the extensive experience, training, and expertise I have gained through many years in practice and program development.
Training in marriage and family therapy means I have a foundation in understanding the role systems (family systems, partnerships, schools, organizations, etc.) play in influencing the health and well-being of the individuals within the system and vice versa. In addition to my passion for working with families and couples, I have developed passion and expertise in treating problems rooted in trauma. Many problematic symptoms, including, addiction, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, OCD, etc. are the result of the persistent nervous system activation that is a result of unprocessed trauma, toxic stress, or attachment wounds, therefore, the interventions that we use in my practice are aimed at tending to these wounds and helping the nervous system return to a healthy baseline.
I have advanced training in techniques such as EMDR (Eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing), Brainspotting, and Trauma Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy. These are all interventions meant to improve overall psychological, physiological, emotional, and relational regulation and well0being. All of the therapists in this practice share similar values, philosophies, and skills for supporting individual in pursuing their personal version of well-being.
